Our team consists of Alfonso Egea, Founder and Agronomist responsible for the design and development of the Block Farms . Rebecca Villalba, Co-Founder, CEO and responsible for the operations in Puerto Rico.
We have developed the Block Farms project, in order to find an effective, convenient, simple and above all viable way to implement agriculture in urban spaces and other places where it would not normally be possible , using hydroponic crops in different ways. We are passionate about innovation in agriculture and promoting urban agriculture and indoor cultivation because we understand the critical need to offer optimal food solutions with minimal impact on the environment for a growing world population increasingly concentrated in urban areas.
Our purpose as a team and as a company is to look for technological solutions to take agriculture to all corners of the world, based on hydroponic crops as an alternative form of food production, without dedicating large areas of land for this purpose. Also, the idea is that consumers are able to find fresh products grown locally and under the highest quality standards.
We know that a large part of the arable land is currently in use, and in the coming decades an urbanization never before seen in history is expected, which will mean that more than 80% of the human population lives in cities, which at the same time, it will cause a great lack of food. The fight against this serious problem must start from today and that is why Block Farms was born.
